One of the biggest red flags that safeguarding expert Gavin de Becker talks about in his book, Protecting the Gift, is chid/adult secret keeping.
Safe adults never ask children to keep secrets, especially from parents. Any adult encouraging a child to develop a special bond by secret keeping is engaging in predatory behavior.
Teachers are mandated reporters, so if they truly believe there is abuse at home they must report it. If they don’t believe there is abuse then they need to notify parents of whatever is going on with their child. Either way, adult/child secret keeping is never the answer.
