These cultures do not break gender norms; they reinforce sexist power dynamics by rejecting effeminate, gay, or nonconforming men. Rather than expand the bandwidth of what it means to be a man, nonconforming men are othered and deprecated and oftentimes prostituted to fully solidify their submissive status.
