It has been really painful and shocking to see Amy Goodman feature Strangio and never question any of the assumptions and glaring errors of fact and logic promulgated by her and her ilk. I have followed Amy G. since before she founded DemocracyNow! and always found her to back up her reporting with solid data and on the ground evidence. Until now. Sigh. I feel much the same about the ACLU, which does such good work in all other arenas. Being captured by queer theory is such liability for the much needed progressive movement in the US and elsewhere. As bizarre as it seems I just think that she and other progressive champions are completely wrong about this one issue. I have this desperate hope that the woke will awaken and see trans ideology and practice for what it is. I basically agree with you, but one point - trans "men" are often taking T, which is a performance enhancing drug which would disqualify them from competition. (It doesn't matter that they're not taking it to enhance their performance. So in order to compete they'd have to give up their "life saving" drug. I don't even think it would matter if they tried competing on the men's team, they still would be regarded as cheating.
Regarding sports, do we know how many trans-identified girls & women continue to play on the female teams? I suppose this is more of a question for various sports organizations regarding doping. Of course, identity for these females is irrelevant--unless they are using testosterone.
